Episode 4 - The Dead Zone
A communications shutdown leaves a train hauling the biggest load ever moved on the Alaska Railroad hurtling towards a ‘dead zone’. Railroad mechanic RC springs into action when vital radio communications are shut down along a critical section of the track. With a train racing towards this dead zone he faces a fraught wilderness trek to reach a faulty communications tower and must call in aerial support.
On board the train, crew Bill and Davy have their own super sized challenge – transport the largest single item ever hauled by the railroad. They must navigate narrow tunnels and tight corners as they maneuver a 150 foot long steel girder to a construction project in Anchorage. The girder is so large it stretches across three rail cars and hangs far over the side of the tracks.
Off grid, homesteader Ed Wick leaves tomahawk-throwing wife Mary Ann to check up on his hunting camp and protect it from bears. Elsewhere veteran homesteader John ‘JT’ Evans has a new madcap idea in his quest for self-sufficiency– he wants to breed fish so he can fertilize his plants with their waste.
