With the proceeds from the sale of their house they’ve been able to buy a large but run down farmhouse for five hundred thousand pounds and they intend to do it up on a budget of one hundred thousand.
Mark a landscape gardener and Yazz a schoolteacher are bravely intending to do all the work themselves and are even planning to live in a static caravan for the whole duration. But their plans go awry when they find out that their farmhouse isn’t two hundred years old but actually much older, and consequently they find themselves owning a listed building with many stipulations.
The enterprising couple must now find a way to work within new guidelines but still create the home of their dreams – all whilst surviving a freezing winter in a cold cramped caravan with a schedule that’s taking much longer than envisaged and a budget which is being stretched to the max.
Alice and Daniel AKA Shammy are passionate about restoration projects – they’ve already renovated one chapel in their hometown of Devon but financial pressure meant unfortunately they had to sell up; but undeterred they’re now they’re gearing up to do it all over again. This time they’ve got their sights set on a new religious relic – a former Christian Gospel Hall.
In this episode Charlie Luxton meets Louisa and John a brave couple who decide to leave inner- city London life behind them, to create the home of their dreams in wild and remote Cumbria.
Louisa and John have been living in London for over twenty years, but they can’t cope in their small, cramped two bedroomed flat anymore and have decided they want to live where John grew up , by the sea.
But on an impulsive whim – and without consulting Louisa first - Johnny has bought a cavernous and dilapidated church hall at auction for only £80,000, three hundred miles away in the village of Seascale.
Marc and his Spanish wife Paula are both architects who live and work together in London and they have a shared passion for renovating historical properties. They’ve set up their own company and have found that in Ramsgate, Kent, there are many abandoned structures waiting to be turned into super smart sleek and stylish homes. One such building is a former Victorian carpenter’s workshop which Marc thinks will become the perfect pied a terre for them.
Sophie and Kayne have bought a dilapidated 174 year old, Methodist Chapel and it was love at first sight -as soon as it came on the market, they impulsively snapped it up that afternoon for £280 thousand pounds. However, they have no experience with historic renovations and even though they know the location of Bracknell well and are armed with a £100K budget.
Lucy is attempting to transform this neglected old building into a modern, luxurious, energy efficient property, fit for 21st century living and somewhere for her family to stay when they come to visit.
George and Maisie used to run a tearoom here, but it was only when they began clearing the land around the site, that they unearthed a true historical gem – a small former military stone barracks which was designed to defend Guernsey against the French invasion in the 18th century. Nik’s research and investigations also uncovered that the now crumbling cottage was once painted by Renoir and was also frequented by famous “Les Miserables” author
Victor Hugo.
A chance opportunity to buy a derelict but structurally sound former threshing barn in Herefordshire, surrounded by acres of beautiful English and Welsh countryside, has ignited their passion to take on a spectacular build and renovation.
Terry’s very good friend, master craftsman and blacksmith Eddie Butterfield, is on a mission to rescue and restore the hut and bring it back to its former glory using the same tools and techniques used hundreds of years ago.
In the heart of historic Ramsgate Marc and Paula share a passion for renovating historical properties.
Now they are taking on their most ambitious project to date: the herculean challenge of reviving a forgotten relic - a vast derelict confectionary factory into eight contemporary apartments. With a budget of £530,000 and a tight 9-month schedule Paula’s taking the lead on this restoration and she’s got her work cut out.
