Building the Billion Pound Cruise Ship

Science & Engineering

In France, an elite team of engineers race to build one of the largest and most technologically advanced cruise ships in the world.

Battling strict deadlines, workers must cut and bend 42,000 tonnes of steel to form the vast hull and install a pair of 300-tonne tanks that will hold the liquified natural gas, to power the ship. More than 2,500 cabins must be preassembled and installed, before the public spaces are fitted out with 13 dining areas, shops, bars, and 7 swimming pools. Finally, 350 tonnes of food need loading before the team welcomes almost 7,000 guests for the maiden voyage.
