Bombing Pompeii

History1 x 60' for National Geographic Channels

Could unexploded bombs in Pompeii explode again?

During WWII the town was bombarded in Allied air strikes. It was hit by nine raids through August and September 1943. More than 165 bombs, from 250 to 1000 lbs, were dropped over the precious archaeological site. Whilst most exploded on impact and caused untold damage, up to ten unexploded bombs lie hidden across an area of Pompeii that has never been excavated.

Now, a team of geophysics have come to Pompeii to search for these bombs.
