Waterfront House Masters follows the larger than life exploits of the Nickel Bros, a three generation family run company who sell homes to go. They acquire old houses due for demolition then haul them by truck and barge to out of reach locations along the North American West Coast for families who want a picturesque, waterfront, retreat.
A grandmother in Salt Spring Island, Canada, has bought her daughter and grandson a 2.5-acre plot of land near the coast. Only problem is there’s no house there, and building one from scratch is prohibitively expensive.
That’s where the Nickel Brothers come in. They’ve sold the family a 3-bedroom house for around a fifth of the price of a new build, and will bring the house to the plot. Complicating matters are the fact that the house is 35 miles away and on another island.
The Nickel team must now lift and haul this monster 45-ton house over land and ocean, navigating adjacent homes, road signs, telephone poles and low slung wires in pitch black conditions.
After living in a trailer for three years, waiting to build a dream house on his off-the-grid 5-acre woodland plot in British Columbia, a father has opted to go for a cheaper, greener option.
He’s called the Nickel Brothers, who have found him a 2-bedroom single story house. Unfortunately it’s sitting over 100 miles away in their storage yard in Victoria, Vancouver Island. Now the Nickel crew has to deal with harsh winter temperatures, and the difficulty of maneuvering the ultra-wide load through steep, narrow and muddy roads to keep this house trucking along.
A couple looking to downsize have bought a ¾ acre plot with easy access of the water. To fill that plot, they are recycling two adjoining 1950’s houses for the property.
That’s where the Nickel Bros. come in, not only selling them the two units, but also needing to split, lift and haul them on 72-foot convoy to the barge site. Keeping them intact will be no easy feat.
A young father has been gifted a plot of land for his wife and son from his own father on their traditional tribal First Nation Cowichan land. Unable to afford to build their own home, they’ve spotted a single story 3-bedroom house in the Nickel Brothers storage yard.
The Nickel crew face a herculean task battling road signs, overhead wires and narrow roads in pitch black conditions to deliver the family’s new home safe and sound.
A mother looking for a quieter, simpler life to raise her daughter has bought a 6-acre woodland plot. Hampered by the cost of building a new home, she’s turned to the Nickel Brothers who’ve found her a 1920’s two-bedroom house, but it’s sitting 50 miles away on the other side of the island.
It’s up to the Nickels to lift and shift this 55-ton structure to get it on the truck. That was the easy part. Hauling the monster wide load up onto a narrow barge will test both the skill and mettle of the entire crew.
In search of a holiday retreat to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, a young family have bought a 1/3 acre plot on a remote island. Passionate about the environment they’re keen to recycle a house rather than build their own and they’ve spotted a single story, 3-bedroom house on the Nickel Brothers books but it’s 60 miles away in the Nickel’s storage yard.
To deliver the house the Nickel’s face their most daunting obstacle: Hauling it over a steep, narrow and winding hill that may just prove impossible to traverse.
A house hunter in search of her dream retirement spot has bought a ¼ acre plot by the sea. Now she needs a house but with building costs being exorbitant, she’s opted to buy a recycled home and move it onto the property.
Courtesy of the Nickel Brothers, she’s found a single story 3-bedroom house to her liking. Now it’s up to the Nickels to haul the house 140 miles by land and sea, but dark roads, steep hills and a heavy house make this one monster move.
A mother with a young child has returned to a remote island where she vacationed in her youth and has bought a 1-acre plot so that her daughter can grow up exploring nature. She’s currently living in a trailer, and is in dire need of a house.
Unable to afford a new build she’s turned to the Nickel Brothers who’ve found her single story 2-bedroom house which costs a third of the price of building from scratch. With the property 70 miles away on a nearby island, it’s now up to the Nickel crew to face their toughest move yet, as they only have one day to split, lift and haul the house up against tire blow outs and more unexpected hurdles that put the move in jeopardy.
A couple in search of their dream waterfront retirement home are returning to a place they know and love. Having bought their ideal plot, they’re fortunate to have fallen in love with a 4-bedroom, avant-garde mid-century property and are hoping to move it onto the property.
The hard part? The house is 60 miles away on a neighboring island. To move it, the Nickel Brothers’ hauling crew will have to deal with Californian wildfires, a sagging house and s sinking barge before they stand any chance of delivering this unique property intact.
A large family looking to live off the grid have bought a 40 acre farm in the San Juan islands. Unfortunately, they are all currently cramped into a tiny hut, so they need a real home, and fast.
To the rescue are the Nickel Brothers, who happen to have a mega two story, 4 bedroom house which would solve all their problems. But moving this 60-ton monster will prove an epic challenge for the Nickels crew who have to dice and splice it in half before hauling the 72 foot convoy to the remote island plot.
