Train Truckers follows an elite crew of heavy-haulage specialists as they race to haul the heaviest, longest and most precious locomotives around the UK and Europe road, rail and sea.
No job is too big for this team to handle. Whether it’s an old locomotive or new metro train. Whether it’s a classic steam engine like Britannia heading to its new home at a heritage railway or the brand-new Class 800 Intercity passenger train, fresh off the boat from Japan.
Each episode follows the crews test their engineering ingenuity as they devise innovative ways to haul locomotives onto innovative multi-wheel trailers then navigate long and demanding road journeys to reach their final destinations.
No two train trucking missions are the same. Narrow roads, treacherous weather, weak bridges and heavy traffic can cause additional challenges for the crews. CGI animations reveal the engineering ingenuity the teams use to undertake these engineering feats. Rare archive footage reveals the secret history behind the featured locomotives, the railways they run on and the dedicated people that keep them on the rails.
This episode follows truck crews transport a classic steam locomotive and brand new prototype commuter train across the country. Train Truckers Terry Savery & Jason Priest have been called in to move legendary Steam Locomotive Britannia. The 68-year-old locomotive has undergone a major-restoration in Crewe and is scheduled to start running at the Severn Valley Railway. But to get the famous engine to the preserved line, it must be moved 70 miles by road through unforgiving rush hour traffic.
Meanwhile Gavin Josephs and Callum Broadhurst need to transport a prototype battery-powered commuter train 422 miles to Scotland. The team will have to load it onto two trucks and drive cross-country on a journey that will see them slice a path through narrow, twisting Scottish lanes, a titanic task, even for the world’s toughest Train Truckers
This episode follows truck crews transporting a brand new commuter train by sea and land and giant royal locomotive across the country.
Expert hauliers Eric Harrison and Chris Case’s mission is to move an iconic Deltic diesel, better known as The Royal Highland Fusilier, half way across the country to the Great Central Railway’s Diesel Gala in Loughborough. But it’s no easy feat, especially when the first challenge is getting this 100 tonne engine onto the trailer, out of the yard and onto the open road.
Elsewhere seasoned hauliers’ Colin Chisnall and Callum Broadhurst have just 48 hours to move three 40-tonne brand-new cars that have just arrived by sea from Northern Spain. But with the load being delayed by the wrong size trailer, a puncture and having to wait for a police escort out, the whole job is put in jeopardy. Not to mention the fact that Colin needs to get home for a very important family occasion… Will he make it?
This episode follows truck crews transporting a huge freight engine by land and sea and two classic steam locomotives that need to get across the country.
Train truckers Zak Bancroft and Alex Whitehouse face a four-day mission to deliver a pair of classic steam locomotives for an Autumn Steam Gala. The duo will travel over 500 miles in order to deliver the Great Western Manor Class and Large Prairie locomotive to the Mid Hants Railway in Hampshire. The truckers will be working to a very tight schedule – the slightest set-back means they’ll miss their deadline and the Steam Gala will be without its star attractions, disappointing hundred of Steam-hungry rail enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, truckers Ian Bagladi and Jamie Turnbull set sail to the port of Rotterdam to collect a Class 66 freight locomotive. The super-sized diesel is heading to the UK for a major over-haul and it needs to be loaded on to a truck before it can board the ferry. Weighing in at 126-tonnes, the mega-freight-train is one of the heaviest engines that the crew will have tackled, so the team are bringing the strongest truck and the longest trailer. It will be a race against the clock for the Train Truckers as they need to load the engine before the next ferry sails.
A titanic task, even for the world’s toughest Train Truckers
This episode follows truck crews transporting a massive railway crane and classic locomotive across the country.
Heavy haulage experts Ian Bagladi and Jamie Turnbull need to move a classical but abandoned 63-year-old, 70-tonne locomotive, through the English countryside, for her headline show at the world-renowned Great Dorset Steam Fair. The team will have to navigate narrow country lanes, scale up monstrous rural hills and fend off typical British traffic to ensure she has her big moment. Can the train truckers haul this locomotive to the steam fair in time for her Grande Parade?
Elsewhere hauling veterans Terry Savery and Zak Bancroft must transport a 120-tonne, 1940’s retired rail crane, 430 miles south to the seaside town of Margate to start her new life as a classical museum exhibit. Unable to fit on one truck, this railway mega machine must endure heavy storms, an overnight stay in the cold and a complicated dismount into her new home. Can this team of train trucking specialists deliver both sections of this vintage relic to the museum, on-time and undamaged so the public can benefit from her beauty for many years to come. A huge task for the world’s toughest train truckers.
This episode follows truck crews transporting a brand-new high-speed train built in Japan and a vintage World War II steam engine.
Seasoned Train Truckers Kevin Norris and Ceiran Linton Bird head up a convoy moving three brand-new, 50 tonne, state of the art high speed trains, fresh in from Japan. They need to transport them from the North East port of Redcar to the Hitachi factory in Doncaster. It’s a highly risky move right from the start, as gale force winds make it impossible to load each of the £4 million train units at the port.
Elsewhere, seasoned hauliers Colin Chisnall and Sam Hardman have 24 hours to move a 73 tonne vintage World War II steam engine built by the US army as part of the war effort. Moving this unwieldy load through narrow country lanes proves a hazardous haul! But nothing compared to the challenge of being forced to unload the colossal engine in the dark.
This episode follows truck crews transporting a massive railway repair locomotive by land and sea and a heavy-weight diesel engine across the country.
The Train Truckers head to Germany to collect multi-million-pound maintenance machine that is so large it will need to be loaded onto two trucks. Drivers Zak Bancroft & Kevin Norris have packed their passports for this mammoth mission that needs them to load the train on the dockside before spending a day at sea and then driving the 167 tonne machine down to London. Once they arrive in the capital, both trucks will have to navigate tight residential streets, packed full of impatient drivers before carefully unloading the valuable machine.
Meanwhile, Eric Harrison and Chris Case head down to Dorset to instigate a heavyweight diesel-engine exchange. The South Devon Railway are swapping their monster Class 37 for a smaller Class 25 and the only way to get the engine to its new home is by road. The route to the nearby Dartmouth and Paignton Steam Railway is just 15 miles, but the roads are too narrow for 105 tonne locomotives so the Class 37 will need to be taken the long way around, adding an extra 24 miles onto the hazardous journey.
